MY STORY

I was born during a critical period in Romanian history, December 1989. Born and raised in the capital city, because of my father's job I got the opportunity to travel from a young age. This provided me insight into different cultures and it definitely left a mark on me.

My high-school studies were specialised in math and computer science specialisation, leading me in having a

affinity for analytics, economics and numbers.

I did study my first bachelors in Romania, which went on a similar tone, in economics. It was this time that I discovered dancing. Because of dancing I began expressing myself and developing my creativity.

In 2013, I took the IELTS exam, got accepted into the Tourism Management program of Inholland Homeschool and moved to Amstelveen, Netherlands. Everything happened so fast.

I think that I've learnt and enjoyed this period quite a lot, even though the road was sometimes paved with obstacles. Throughout my studies I was also working full-time in HORECA, retail, or hospitality, depending on the time-frame.

It was an interesting period, as I've got to observe and compare the differences between the Romanian and Dutch education system. During these studies, I've met interesting colleagues and friends, and not to mention great people and mentors in the professors that I've encountered. This is where I discovered and polished my customer-centric and service personality.

An impactful moment in my life has been my internship at SATOCAN, in Gran Canaria. Here I've met wonderful people that have given me a great opportunity to show what I can do. From here I've taken into consideration what type of persons I want to surround myself with in life. Not only professionally, but also personally.

Because of my mentor, I started considering a career in marketing. So, during COVID time, while working at booking.com, I took a great risk, and quit my job. However, I found an unpaid internship at IKEUCHI Europe. They gave me the opportunity to began my marketing journey, while I was finishing my Marketing Management Masters at RUG.

Once I achieved taking my Masters, I could continue focusing on my job, as a Marketing Coordinator. After a while I encountered a new opportunity at Konica Minolta Sensing Europe. In the role of Digital marketing specialist, I definitely had my hands full with various challenges: both in terms of dealing with people, encountering solutions for the marketing and sales teams, or enhancing the marketing activities through innovation.

In the various marketing roles, my approach was one combining diligence and service. I look for going the extra mile in my work and provide value to everything that I do. I love marketing for its creativity and its analytical side, for the decision making, for its testing and learning curves, and not to mention, for the psychology.

That is why I consider myself a T-shaped marketing person, as I am curious about everything related to it. To further expand, I like to take a marketing-related topic and explore it until I am close to managing and excelling at it. Of course it is impossible to master everything, however, I like to think that I'm giving my best in everything that I do. As a problem-solving person, I like to research, take courses, or read books.

Because of my studies at Inholland and internship in Gran Canaria, I also speak Spanish at a C1 level. My Dutch is a B1 level, and working towards a B2, and ultimately C1. Because of my early travels, I don't really identify myself as a Romanian.

I have to admit that I've taken multiple cultural aspects from various people and cultures. I do have a bias for the Spanish culture, but at my core, I consider myself a Dutch person with a Spanish heart.

In my free time, I enjoy developing myself as much as I can. Personal development plays an important role in my life (see CV for more details: emotional intelligence, public speaking, PMC, SCRUM, career coaching, etc.) . However, I've learnt that balance and doing the things that you enjoy need to be apart of my life. Thus, I do a lot of sports: surf, gym, jiu-jitsu, running. But I do love reading, and dancing.

Apart from family, friends are also important. A good friend of mine once told me that "your new friends are silver, and the old ones are gold".  Life definitely will come with its obstacles and difficulties, but it's up to everyone to transform them into stepping stones. Learning from the past mistakes is imperative on the road of doing better. Having a positive attitude can brighten your day and those around you, bringing you more opportunities.

That is my life philosophy.

Groetjes,

Alex
